When a "bad review" leads to a new use case

Welcome back to The Agent GTM Newsletter where we share actionable tips, free AI tools, and market insights every Friday.

Hey there,

A few weeks ago, I got a bad review on one of my agents. When this happens, I try to always email the user to ask for feedback.

Turned out it was just a one time bug, but if I hadn't emailed him, he would have just walked away without seeing the agent in action (there are almost 2,000 agents on agent.ai, if your agent isn't working, people can and should move on quickly!).

The user, Vishal Kataria, engaged with me and we had an email back and forth about how he's using the agent, what he finds valuable, etc.

Then, he organically posted this on LinkedIn.

I originally built the agent for Content Writers and PMMs who wanted to cite expert opinions for a specific project.

But Vishal showed me a really interesting new use case, Personalized Learning. You can use this to learn how the best are doing something like writing AI PRDs

What I learned from this

  1. Find creative ways to engage with users
Obviously any builder should talk to users, but when you're building free AI products, there's no contract, no sales call, no renewal hanging in the balance.
Most users run your agent once, maybe twice, and that's it. So when someone engages a bit more deeply, like leaving a review, they're worth talking to.
  2. AI products don't have fixed boundaries
You might design something for one purpose, but people will always find new ways to use your product.
  3. The use base for my agents is very broad
Because the listing on agent.ai just has a short description and demo video, all sorts of people, small business owners, CEOs, marketing teams, independent researchers use my agents. It makes it harder to build something that works for everyone, but the feedback loop is so much richer.

Try it yourself

If you haven’t played with it yet, the Expert Opinion Research Agent helps you:

  • Source credible experts on any topic
  • Get insights summarized from their talks
  • Access source citations to dig deeper

Ask it something like:

“How do top founders structure AI product roadmaps?”

…and you’ll see what Vishal means.

Catch you next week,
Shaalin
